This CAD program helps reduce the number of polygons used in a 3D model so that real time rendering in gaming or virtual reality environments is done easily.
Solid modeling uses a large number of polygons to create a life like model of the object. This is required for accuracy of representation. But the problem is that if you try to animate such an object, in a gaming or a VRML environment, the animation would call for real time rendering of these objects. Since every movement you show, that involves the object to be looked at from a new angle, you require to recalculate the colors of all these many polygons in real time. It would call for really powerful systems to carry out these renderings. One way around is, if these polygons used can be reduced so that computing load can be reduced for the animations required. It would be essential to maintain the look & feel of the model, of course.
This program does this amazingly. Given a CAD model, it will create multiple models with different levels of reductions. That gives you the freedom of choice to selecting the model that is the best tradeoff between the number of polygons and the look & feel. The models are compatible with Wavefront .OBJ, VRML 2.0/97 and StereoLitho (.STL) file formats. The actual operation of the program is downright simple, anyone can actually create these, no computer expertise is needed. The reduction that will work depends on your application. But, in some instances, even if the model is reduced to the level where it contains just 10% of the polygons, the software does produce quite a presentable model.
